Kelowna's Future Survey

The City of Kelowna will be conducting a phone survey over the next few weeks to update it's 1992 Strategic Plan. About 500 Kelowna residents will be asked to participate in the survey in order to express their views and preferences regarding Kelowna's future.

Every resident has an equal chance of being selected because a random sampling method will be used. The survey is being conducted by IER Planning, an independent consulting firm.

Mayor Walter Gray says "public participation is essential." "We want our Strategic Plan to reflect the needs and expectations of our community - after all, this is the place where people live and raise their families - we want to build a future that reflects community priorities."

If you're not called you can still express your view by picking up a copy at the Reception of Desk City Hall and returning it by May 10th.

On-line survey forms are also available on the City's website (www.city.kelowna.bc.ca) under Current Projects, Strategic Plan Update. Survey results will be available at City Hall and on the City's website in early June.

Since the original Strategic Plan was adopted in 1992 the city's population has increased by 25,000 people. Over 9,000 homes have been built and approximately 8 million square feet of commercial, industrial and institutional space has been developed. The economy has seen growth in most sectors, with the biggest growth occurring in education services, health and social services and high tech industries.

Upon adoption by City Council, the new Strategic Plan will outline future directions for City of Kelowna services over the next five to ten years, taking into account the most recent trends, issues, priorities and community input.
