Cars zooming around Big White

This Saturday, December 3, The Valley Mitsubishi SnowX competition will take place at the back of the Happy Valley Day Lot. The course will be a blend of RallyX and AutoX styles, with tight corners and technical sections.

It will be open to registered competitors on Saturday, as well as to performance rally teams. Registration and technical inspection will take place on Friday evening.

Jennifer Daly, event organizer, is proud of this high performance motorsports competition that brings rally teams from across the Pacific Northwest to drive the snowy backroads around the resort.

“It is a fun, high profile event that really adds to the atmosphere of the resort on opening weekend,” Daly says.

“This year we have 21 entries so far, making it our biggest race ever. Participants are coming up here from everywhere, including racers from Oregon and Alberta.”

As fun as it would be to compete, you don’t have to be a daredevil snow racer to take part in this weekend’s event. There are several ways to spectate: stand on the edge of the Happy Valley skating rink and watch daily drivers take on performance rally teams at the snowX, or, for true rally fans, pack a lunch and dress warm. Then, head out onto the forest stage and watch the rally cars slide around tight corners and across a narrow bridge.

Or, perhaps you’d like to drive your own car around some winter courses without actually racing at top speeds.

“We are offering a snowX competition to registered entrants at Happy Valley.  It is a winter driving course, but no winter driving instruction is offered.  We have one plowed slalom course and advance registration is required,” Daly says.

Anyone can participate, but be sure to check out the SnowX Website for more information.
