Search continues for lost helicopter

Searchers will continue their hunt Saturday night for a missing helicopter that failed to arrive at its destination north of Kelowna last night.

Capt. Bob Evans of the Joint Search and Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria said the pilot was the only one aboard the A Star helicopter, which left Langley at about 6:30 p.m. Friday night.

"We got the call at about 9:30 p.m., the family called in and were concerned," Evans said.

He said searchers were also out Friday night around Hope, near the pilot's last known position.

"We're going to do a night search in case he was able to start a fire."

The pilot didn't file an official flight plan but gave his family a so-called flight note with the required information, he said.

The experienced pilot, whose name isn't being released at this time, is in his 60s.
