Beating leaves man hospitalized

RCMP say a beating in Kelowna Sunday evening has left a man in hospital.

At approximately 6 p.m. on June 12 two rival groups met up at McCurdy Road East and Gibson Road.

While all the details of the incident are not yet known, RCMP Staff Sergeant Terry McLachlan says it appears the two rival groups -- not gangs --  have had a long standing hatred toward one another.

It appears the rivals had agreed to meet, says McLachlan.

McLachlan says that it appears one of the men was then assaulted, and was taken to hospital.

At the scene, a large trail of blood could be seen in the middle of the roadway.

"He was beat up fairly badly," says McLachlan, adding that baseball bats were believed to have been used in the assault.

More details are expected to be released Monday.
