Update: Death at Big White

UPDATE: Castanet has learned the man killed was 27-years-old. He had a seasons pass to Big White and he was taking post secondary education in the Okanagan valley. The man was skiing alone and no one reported him missing. Const. Steve Holmes says the accident was reported at 2 p.m. last Wednesday.

Sources tell Castanet News that a male passed away on Big White March 16.

Witnesses say a person was spotted upside-down in a tree well on one of the runs. A spokesperson for the mountain says rescue personal were on scene within minutes of the report and tried to resuscitate the individual.

An air ambulance was called in to take the person to Kelowna General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A Castanet reader says the body has been flown to Ontario for burial sometime later this week.

Big White is stressing the importance of skiing with a partner.

The file is now in the hands of the coroner.
