Big White helps raise funds for the KGH Foundation youth mental health programs

Big money for mental health

Big White Ski Resort helped raise more than $60,000 for the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation’s youth mental health programs over the weekend.

A quiet East Kelowna farm was transformed into a Woodstock-themed celebration Saturday, Aug. 23.

More than 400 guests turned up for the sold-out event, many wearing colourful 60s outfits for a night of live music including the Malpractice Misfits, Sonic Tide, and dance-floor headliner Rex.

“Supporting Rock the Foundation for a second year is something we’re incredibly proud of, and we’re committed to helping it grow year after year,” said Darcy Arnold, chief operating officer of Big White Ski Resort Ltd.

In addition to Big White, presenting sponsors included Gorman Bros. Lumber, Valley Mitsubishi, Callahan Property Group, Pihl Law Corporation, Troika Developments, Rush Ihas Hardwick LLP, and Andre’s Electronics.

“It’s a privilege to be part of an organization like Big White that is so dedicated to giving back to the community. We know these funds will be put to good use, and we’re proud to continue supporting local charities and community initiatives throughout the year,” says Michael J. Ballingall, senior vice-president at Big White Ski Resort.

Event organizers expect this year’s fundraiser to surpass last year’s results. The money will be used to improve access to mental health support for youth in the region.
