It won’t be making the shift until early next year, but a downtown Kelowna cafe has announced it is moving to another part of the city.
In a social media post, the owner of 350 Bakehouse and Cafe told customers that the business is relocating to Spall Road, probably opening in February.
“There were a few factors that we took into account for our decision to move out of downtown and we hope it will be a good decision. Construction will start soon and we’ll keep you updated on what we’re doing,” said the post.
Owner Ed Wouda told Castanet last month that its current building, at 567 Bernard Avenue, was recently sold and his rent went up 120%. He decided to move after failing to reach a viable lease agreement with the new landlord.
Wouda said finding an appropriate space for a bakery and cafe wasn’t easy.
“It’s like a complete new rebuild, with any of the fees and the building permits and the design works and the mechanical/HVAC scenarios. It’s definitely costly,” he explained.
Wouda is hoping the regulars who have supported the cafe over the past seven-and-a-half years will stick with them and that they’ll attract some new customers at the Spall Rd. location.
