Kelowna Gospel Mission gearing up for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving with KGM

The Kelowna Gospel Mission is gearing up for a Thanksgiving lunch on Saturday.

This lunch will serve 210 residents in emergency shelters as well as an additional 150 people living unsheltered, who will be served by their outreach team.

The meal will include a traditional Thanksgiving feast featuring roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, roasted squash donated by Helen’s Acres, and pumpkin pie for dessert.

The shelters are festively decorated and placemats for the meal are sent in by donors and have individual notes of encouragement on each one.

“Each day at our shelters and on the streets, we witness deep gratitude from those we serve. Many people who come to us, despite their own struggles, are eager to give back, whether it’s by helping with a meal or offering a simple thank you," said KGM executive director Carmen Rempel.

"This Thanksgiving, I’m especially grateful for the community’s enduring support, which allows us to provide not only food but also a sense of comfort and care to those in need."

Local leaders, including MP Tracy Gray, Kelowna city councillor Loyal Wooldridge, B.C. NDP’s newest candidate, and MLA Renee Merrifield will be there serving meals and showing their care and commitment to those experiencing homelessness.
