Interior Savings' ninth annual Unplug & Play week begins Sunday with free family event

Time to get off those screens

Interior Savings is ready to once again offer a barrage of family activities that do not involve a screen.

The credit union’s ninth annual Unplug & Play and Family Literacy Week will take place across the Central Okanagan, beginning Sunday. The week celebrates screen-free play and learning for families with young children.

“We’re very happy to join with our community partners to help families explore ways to unplug and share more personal time together,” Project Literacy Central Okanagan Society executive director Paul Zuurbier said in a press release.

Project Literacy Central Okanagan Society is organizing the launch event, which will take place on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free family event will feature a magic show, creative games, interactive activities and colouring contests.

“The pandemic has forced many of us to spend more time than we’d like in front of our screens, making the need to unplug even more important to maintain our mental and physical well-being, and social connections,” Interior Savings CEO Brian Harris said.

“Interior Savings’ Unplug & Play and Family Literacy Week is designed to encourage families to take a break from their devices and find more balance in their lives by reading, playing and being creative together.”

Interior Savings, as sponsors of Unplug & Play, is encouraging all families to visit the program’s website to see all the free events that are scheduled for next week, including ice skating, swimming, story walks and library story times.
