Stolen car from Kelowna dealership found at Sicamous Tim Hortons

Car found in drive-thru

UPDATE: 2:55 p.m.

Jeff Patton tells Castanet the stolen Infinity was located at a Tim Hortons drive-thru in Sicamous.

Sicamous RCMP located the vehicle at 6 a.m. and say it was abandoned.

"There was a ton of drug paraphernalia, stolen goods, backpacks. I think the vehicle ran out of gas," Patton said, adding he was told police were able to locate and arrest both suspects.

"The police officer said as far as the outside of the vehicle looked, it was pretty good, but he said the inside was really bad. He said it was basically like two homeless people had moved everything they owned into the car."

The key fob was with the car, but there was no key left behind.

"It is a chip key and it's $500 bucks and it needs to be at the dealership. Now we have to figure out a way to get it towed," Patton added.

ORIGINAL: 1:30 p.m.

A car was brazenly stolen this week from a Kelowna dealership during a test drive.

Patton Motorcars owner Jeff Patton says a couple came into the dealership on Monday around 2 p.m. asking to drive a 2004 white Infinity G35 Coupe.

He says some red flags were raised at first when the couple said they were from out of town.

"They told [an employee] that they were going to take it to the Days Inn hotel, show their dad and make sure he was OK with them purchasing it. When I heard that, it kind of brought up some red flags so we actually phoned the hotel and no one was there by the name of the ID."

Patton says he waited until the dealership closed at 5 p.m. to see if the couple would come back, but they never returned.

"We did the necessary protocols for people to go on a test drive. We discussed price options and method of payment."

"We took their ID, we took a photo of the ID which proved to be stolen ID. We took their cellphone number and their name and it all matched and it was a fake number."

"We even messaged on Facebook and the girl said that her ID was stolen."

The vehicle was stolen with plate number D81462. It was listed for $8,900.

The woman is described as caucasian, five-foot-four, 95 pounds with piercings with purple lip stick. The man is caucasian, five-foot-10 and roughly 220 pounds.

Patton says the incident has made them think twice about how they will approach test drives in the future.

"Now we have to take maybe two pieces of ID that match or get a deposit on the car or go with the people."

"It sucks for the consumers because one of the biggest things why we are so successful here is trust and honesty and we believe the best in people," he continued.

Anyone who recognizes the suspects or has any information is asked to contact Kelowna RCMP.
