Lake Country RCMP investigate 'extremely cruel' dog poisonings

Dogs expected to recover

UPDATE 11:55 a.m.

The Lake Country RCMP say they are seeking tips on the “completely unnecessary and extremely cruel” poisoning of a pair of dogs in the community.

Police confirmed Monday morning they are investigating the incidents reported on by Castanet over the weekend.

“This type of crime not only puts animals at risk but our young citizens as well which is of great concern to us all,” said Const. Mike Della-Paolera.

If anyone has any information they are asked to call the Lake Country RCMP at (250) 766-2288 or leave an anonymous tip by contacting the Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and reference the file number 2022-74588.

Two dogs in Lake Country that were poisoned with two trays of meat soaked in antifreeze are expected to make a full recovery.

Deidra says she let her dogs Joe and Sofiya out to pee Thursday night at their home in the Lakestone development off Okanagan Centre Road. When they returned inside, the Aussiedoodle and Bernedoodle began to vomit.

She called police and put the trays in their freezer to keep them overnight. The next morning, the liquid hadn't frozen, and they believe the liquid was antifreeze.

Antifreeze is a common hazard for pets as they can be attracted to its sweet taste. Ingesting it can be fatal.

Both Joe and Sofiya left the vet Saturday night in decent condition.

"They are at home with my mom now and seem to be doing a little bit better today," Deidra said.

Deidra says she did spot someone in her yard on Friday afternoon on her camera, but was unable to get a good look at the person.

The RCMP are investigating the incident.

"It does sound like they will make a full recovery, they were optimistic when we were leaving the vet," Deidra added.
