Kelowna city councillor Charlie Hodge issued a formal apology at the conclusion of Tuesday night's public hearing for an off-handed comment made at a previous meeting.
"During the last public hearing I made an inappropriate comment regarding bicycle theft that I regret and I apologize for," said Hodge.
"This was an off-the-cuff comment that I realize now was a mistake and I take full responsibility."
"Again, I apologize to the public and to my colleagues. I apologize, I'm sorry."
The comment in question was made during a discussion around bike theft mitigation at new highrise developments.
"If I wasn't a wise, veteran councillor, I would suggest a solution to the bike theft area in our apartments is a machine gun nest," he said.
"But, I won't go there because I'm a wise veteran councillor."
