Firefighters going door-to-door in Lake Country for the food bank

Fire crews help food bank

Lake Country firefighters will be knocking on doors next week to accept donations for the local food bank.

Firefighters will be driving up and down neighbourhood streets in their firetrucks from Dec. 4 and 6, to collect non-perishable items.

After COVID-19 meant changes impacted the annual event in 2020 and 2021, the Lake Country Fire Department is says they're pleased to get back at it in person this year.

"Lake Country firefighters love the annual food drive and although we participated in a more subdued fashion last year, and raised a good-sized donation for the food bank, we're all looking forward to the collection drive this year," said Deputy Fire Chief Brent Penner.

"Nothing beats getting out in the community, seeing the generosity and good cheer on the faces of the families. It's a great feeling and it's a positive, supportive thing to do for our community."

The firefighters will be in the Carr's Landing neighbourhood on Dec. 4 starting at 10:00 a.m.

On Dec. 6, they will be in and around Okanagan Centre, Oyama and Winfield starting at 6:00 p.m.

Keep on the lookout for flashing lights if you're looking to make a donation. You can also leave donations on your doorstep with a note.
