Lake Country wants more than 7 hectares removed from ALR

Plan to remove ALR lands

The District of Lake Country is leading an effort to have more than seven hectares of property removed from the Agricultural Land Reserve.

The municipality says it is sponsoring the application as a part of its redevelopment plans of the Glenmore industrial area. The six parcels totalling 7.28 hectares are located at 9265 Seaton Road, 9130 and 9162 Glenmore Road and three parcels with no civic address fronting Okanagan Centre Road West.

The district is working on a services plan for the area in 2023, the beginning of the redevelopment of the Glenmore industrial lands, which will require the removal of the lands from the ALR.

While the properties in question are in the ALR, they are not currently used for agricultural purposes. The private owners of the parcels are in support of the municipality's proposal.

While the Agricultural Land Commission will make the final decision, Lake Country council is holding a public hearing to get input as part of the application.

Interested parties are invited to attend and provide input:

  • Tuesday, January 17, 2023 beginning at 7 p.m.
  • Lake Country Municipal Hall
  • 10150 Bottom Wood Lake Road
