Masked gunman hunted after robbery at Bernard Avenue convenience store

Police hunt armed robber

Kelowna RCMP are on the hunt for a man wanted in connection with an armed robbery Tuesday night at Bankhead Convenience Store on Bernard Avenue.

Police say they responded to an alarm triggered at the store at about 10 p.m. that night.

Investigators say the man pointed a black handgun at the employee behind the counter, handed over a black bag, and demanded money.

"An undisclosed amount of cash, four packages of cigarettes and other merchandise were taken before the suspect departed on foot," said Const. Mike Della-Paolera in a media release.

"It is unknown which direction the suspect headed or if a vehicle was involved."

Police deployed its canine unit to try and track the suspect, but they were unable to locate him. His identity is not known at this time.

A description of the suspect has not been released by police, other than the man wore a black ski mask and gloves.

RCMP are asking anyone who may have witnessed events around the store at 10 p.m. Tuesday evening, have dashcam footage from the area or any other information that could lead to an arrest to contact the Kelowna detachment at 250-762-3300 and reference file number 2022-70139.
