Okanagan College brings back outdoor film festival

Outdoor film fest is back

Okanagan College is getting into the Halloween spirit early this season.

The Okanagan College’s Fear Film Fest starts Tuesday night in a series of outdoor film screenings at the Kelowna campus courtyard.

The movies are being hosted by the Okanagan College Communications Department and will feature open-air screenings which were popular pre-pandemic.

“We’re reviving a long-standing department tradition of hosting community-building events as a way to increase student engagement. We hope the timing of this film fest will also give students a chance to blow off a little steam as midterm season approaches,” said Ed Henczel, Chair Okanagan College communications department.

The lineup of films includes:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 4 — Blood Quantum: We all bleed red (2019)
  • Wednesday, Oct. 5 — Scream: Solving this mystery is going to be murder (1996)
  • Thursday, Oct. 6 — Parasite: Act like you own the place (2019)

Anyone wanting to participate is encouraged to bring their own lawn chair or blanket. Popcorn will be available for $1 with profits going to Okanagan College Student's Union Pantry, to support food security initiatives for students. The event is rain or shine and screenings will be held in S104 in the event of inclement weather.
