Bake the World a Better Place pie fundraiser coming to Kelowna in support of Central Okanagan Food Bank

Pie fundraiser for food bank

A baked pie goes a long way!

The Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB) is hosting its third annual Bake the World a Better Place pie fundraiser to ensure that anyone facing food insecurity within the community can receive a holiday hamper in the coming months.

This event allows people the opportunity to experience one-of-a-kind pie creations from renowned chefs throughout the Okanagan, while encouraging widespread community participation.

The online pie sale will run from September 21st to 30th, with a pie auction to follow from Oct 1st to 4th with all proceeds going directly to the COFB.

Each of the fourteen chefs participating in the event will provide 21 pies – 20 are for regular sale, and 1 for auction.

Some chefs opt to create auction packages with their pies.

Dimitri Bakalos of The Lookout Restaurant will be pairing his Okanagan cherry frangipane pie with a box of assorted wines from Grey Monk Winery.

There are also three celebrity chefs who will each enter an auction pie. This year’s lineup includes Olympian Malindi Elmore, Gary Brucker and Tim Kramer of Barn Owl Brewing, and Scotty Hackman from New Country 100.7 radio.

Previously this signature event has raised a combined $70,000 for the food bank.

The COFB says they are currently serving a record breaking 5,500 clients per month. The most vulnerable client group served are seniors, many of whom live on a fixed income, and account for 22 per cent of clients served.
