Walmart blames meat shortage in Kelowna on 'internal supply chain challenges'

Walmart sorry for shortage

Empty meat shelves at Walmarts in Kelowna and Vernon should be refilled in the next few days according to a spokesperson for Walmart Canada.

Shoppers at the Kelowna Walmart contacted Castanet after they were greeted with empty shelves on Tuesday, and after the story went up, a shopper said there were also shortages at the Vernon location as well.

"I was actually shocked," said regular Walmart Kelowna shopper T. Cassidy.

“Our Kelowna Walmart Supercentre is experiencing some recent internal supply chain challenges affecting the meat category, resulting in product shortages. This is not what our customers expect and deserve,” said Walmart Canada spokesperson Felicia Fefer in a statement to Castanet.

"We are proud to stock the products our customers want at everyday low prices," Walmart's statement continued.

"We are prioritizing this issue and product availability continues to improve daily. We apologize to our Kelowna customers for this short-term inconvenience and thank them for their understanding."
