The YMCA is changing its name.
The YMCA of the Okanagan is now officially called the YMCA of Southern Interior BC.
YMCA says the change was made to better reflect the communities the charity serves and those it plans to serve outside the Okanagan in the future.
“The Y is always evolving, and we don’t want to be limited by our name in terms of the communities we serve,” states Allyson Graf, CEO of the newly named YMCA of Southern Interior BC.
“We do, however, assure our community that we will remain the same Y, with the same mission to strengthen the foundations of communities.”
The YMCA delivers programs and services throughout the Okanagan with no plans to change current offerings.
“Our communities are facing significant challenges including isolation, declining mental health, and inactivity,” Graf added. “Along with our partners, donors and other incredible charitable organizations, we are working to support our community and citizens. We look forward to exploring partnerships and collaborations with other like-minded organizations to provide the services our communities need.”
