Kelowna to host information meetings for potential council candidates

Info session for candidates

Potential candidates seeking to claim a seat on Kelowna city council in the fall can have any linger questions answered during an information meeting next week.

The city clerks office is hosting a pair of one-hour information meetings in council chambers Wednesday, Aug. 17.

The sessions will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m.

Candidates can also attend via Microsoft Teams. A link to join will be made available on the city's website the day of the event.

Staff from the city clerk's office will present an overview of the role of council, what to expect at meetings as well as election resources.

Topics range from council authority and time commitments to key election timelines.

A question-and-answer session will follow.

Those planning to run for one of the nine council positions are encouraged to attend.

The meeting is also open to members of the public who wish to learn more about city council.

As of the close of business Tuesday, eight prospective candidates had requested nomination papers for mayor with another 40 for city councillor.

Nomination papers are available at the city clerk's office at city hall or the city's website.

Completed forms must be returned between Aug. 30 and Sept. 9.
