Futile break-in at Knights of Columbus Hall leaves service organization footing the bill for repairs

Knights hall damaged

A would-be thief got away with nothing but left damage in his wake at the Knights of Columbus Hall at Sutherland Ave. and Gordon Dr. over the weekend.

The man can be seen on security video at approximately 1 a.m. Saturday, July 23, walking by and then turning around and trying the door. He then puts down the can he was holding and grabs the handle with both hands and pulls hard on the door three times until it pops open.

He walks inside and comes out again less than a minute later.

Knights of Columbus member Pat Bentley says nothing was taken, but repairs to the door have so far cost the service organization about $700. They’ve had to dip into their limited funds because even though they have insurance, the $1,000 deductible is more than the repairs.

While you can't hear it on the video, Bentley told Castanet the break-in triggered the alarm in the hall and that’s likely why the suspect left so quickly. He’s hoping someone will recognize the man captured on the CCTV video and be able to identify him.

The break-in has been reported to the Kelowna RCMP.
