Celebration of life planned for Kelowna woman swept away by creek

Service planned for Cardno

A celebration of life has been announced for a Kelowna woman who was swept away last month by Mission Creek.

Chelsea Cardno, 31, went missing June 14 while walking her dog along the creek. Her body was found downstream on June 24 in a farmer’s field.

Cardno’s disappearance and the search for her resulted in an outpouring of community support.

On Wednesday, the Cardno family announced her funeral will be held on July 12 at 4 p.m. at the Springfield Funeral Home.

“All who wish to attend whether you knew Chelsea, were touched by her story, have followed and supported our family during this time are invited,” the family said in a statement on Facebook.

“Anyone who knew Chelsea knew just how much of a soft spot she had in her heart for animals. In her honour we will be collecting items for Paws it Forward, a local dog rescue, in lieu of flowers at her service.”

The family has requested that attendees dress appropriately.

A GoFundMe to raise money for Cardno’s funeral collected close to $13,000.
