Former Kelowna resident dies in double-fatal crash in Alberta

Kelowna ties to double fatal

One of two people killed in a fatal car crash Friday in Alberta was a former Kelowna resident.

Denelle Brazeau grew up in Kelowna and attended Rutland Senior Secondary.

Just after 9 a.m. on June 17, emergency crews were called to Highway 2 near Okotoks. Investigators believe a northbound passenger van being driven by a man entered the southbound lanes of the highway and crashed into an oncoming SUV being driven by Brazeau.

Both drivers died at the scene.

Ben Schwarz has been a friend of Brazeau's for years and attended R.S.S. with her.

He has started a GoFundMe to help cover costs for the funeral and help build a trust fund for the Brazeau's two children.

"I had friends who all came together at my place and then they asked me to start the GoFundMe. I am still close to the older son. That way everyone knows the money is going to get to where it needs to. It is just surreal," Schwarz said.
