Snow is expected to fall on mountain highways through Sunday

Snow to fall through Sunday

Snow is falling on some of the Interior's high-elevation mountain highways, and it's now expected to continue through to Sunday.

Environment Canada has extended its special weather statement to include flurries into Sunday, after initially expecting the snowfall to come to an end Saturday night.

Snow is already falling on the Okanagan Connector at the Pennask Summit and Elkhart areas, and it's expected at the Coquihalla Summit as well.

Additionally, drivers on the Hope-Princeton Highway and Highway 3 from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass can expect snow as well.

“Snow over highway passes is expected to be generally light,” Environment Canada says. “However, there is a potential for Kootenay Pass to receive more than 15 cm of snow Saturday night through Sunday.”

While the province's snow tire requirement for mountain passes expired at the end of April, drivers should still be prepared for winter conditions at higher elevations this weekend.
