RCMP officer seriously injured in stabbing on Ellis Street

UPDATE 9:05 a.m.

The officer who was wounded is a long-serving, experienced member of the RCMP.

Police are not expected to hold a news conference today to update the case.

It is still an active investigation.


ORIGINAL 6:10 a.m.

A Kelowna RCMP officer was rushed to the hospital early this morning after being stabbed in the line of duty.

Shortly after the officer responded to a call in the 1000 block of Ellis Street around 12:18 a.m., they called for immediate assistance after being stabbed.

Other officers swarmed the area and the suspect was found.

Both the injured officer and the suspect were taken to Kelowna General Hospital for treatment. The Mountie suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect had non-life-threatening injuries.

“Our officers face danger and difficult circumstances each and everyday in the service of this community. Tonight, I am grateful for the incredible work they did in supporting each other and responding to this event. Our thoughts remain with the officer and their family.” Said Insp. Adam MacIntosh Operations Officer, Kelowna RCMP.

The Kelowna General Investigative Support Team is asking any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to come forward. They are also asking anyone who might have video footage of the incident to contact Kelowna RCMP at (250) 762-3300.
