Okanagan comic book Resilient up for two industry honours

Comic book seeks support

An Okanagan comic book and its illustrator are up for a couple of awards, and they need your help.

Resilient, which is written by Kelowna’s George Michail, has been nominated by Sequential Magazine in the Best Comic category, while series illustrator Vinz El Tabanas is up for the Favourite Artist award.

The nominees were selected by a jury, but the winners will be determined by fan voting.

“We’re up against some stiff competition,” Michail said. “It’s really easy to vote. If you have a Gmail account it takes less than a minute.”

Resilient, which hit comic book stores across North America last year, is about “a young judo teacher who loses her arms but gains cybernetic prosthetics. She must use her fists and her Kung fu skills to right the wrongs of her husband’s sordid past.”

The public can vote for Resilient and El Tabanas by visiting Sequential Magazine’s awards web page here. Voting ends on Monday night.
