The Salvation Army in Kelowna/Lake Country says demand for its services rose 40% in 2021

Demand for services spiked at the Salvation Army in Kelowna and Lake Country last year.

The ongoing impact of COVID-19, combined with the wildfire and flooding disasters that affected nearby communities, saw demand rise by 40% in 2021.

Despite the sharp rise, the Christmas Kettle Campaign and mail campaign raised more than $813,000, surpassing the fundraising goal for the holiday season.

“We are so blessed to live in a community that cares for one another and that strives to give hope, at Christmas, and throughout the fires, floods and the pandemic,” said Major Mark Wagner, Lead Pastor at The Salvation Army Kelowna Community Church.

Over 800 families received support in December, including 1,200 children who got toys for Christmas.

“We are once again grateful and humbled by the support from this community and how many continue to respond to those in need….this level of trust is not taken for granted and we will be faithful to steward these resources to benefit our community, in 2022,” added Wagner.
