Kelowna RCMP surround suspicious vehicle on Hwy 97, find weapon

A heavy police presence was reported Tuesday afternoon on Highway 97 in Kelowna.

A Castanet reader sent us a photo of unmarked police vehicles surrounding another vehicle in the area around Powick Rd. and Highway 97, across from Costco.

Kelowna RCMP tells Castanet that the incident occurred at approximately 2 p.m., when the RCMP tactical team conducted a traffic stop on what they describe as a suspicious pick-up truck.

The Kelowna RCMP Police Dog Services assisted with the traffic stop and a quick investigation determined the Ford F250, was stolen out of Penticton.

The driver was arrested without incident, however, officers discovered a firearm inside the truck and he remains in custody while the investigation continues.
