Stolen vehicle torched

UPDATE 12:09 p.m.

Lake Country RCMP tell Castanet they responded to reports of a vehicle fire in the parking lot of a business in the 7900 area of Highway 97 at 3:23 a.m.

After further investigation, RCMP investigators determined the truck, a brown 2002 Ford F-350, was stolen out of Princeton on December 18, 2021.

RCMP is seeking information from witnesses who may have seen anyone in the area at this morning's fire.

Potential witnesses are asked to email the Kelowna RCMP at [email protected] or remain completely anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

ORIGINAL 11:17 a.m.

The Lake Country Fire Department responded to an early morning fire in the parking lot of the Jealous Fruits building on Highway 97 Monday morning.

Lake Country deputy fire chief Brent Penner tells Castanet the fire broke out right on the jurisdiction line between the Kelowna and Lake Country fire departments.

"We responded at 3:23 a.m. and found a Ford F-350 truck fully involved in the parking lot of Jealous Fruits."

Deputy Chief Penner says the fire was contained to the parking lot and the blaze did not spread to the building. There were no injuries.

"Our crews put out the fire and handed the scene over to the RCMP," Penner said.

Castanet has reached out to RCMP to see if there is any more information about the fire.
