Large herd of elk spotted at Kelowna golf course Sunday morning

Large herd of elk spotted

UPDATE: 2:10 p.m.

One of the owners of the property above Tower Ranch Golf Course is asking the public to stay off their property, after several "looky-loos" showed up Sunday trying to get a glimpse of the elk herd in the area.

Jessica Marak says they had a trespassing hunter illegally shoot a bull on their property earlier this year, and she'd like people to stay away.

"There's a big security gate and a massive 'No Trespassing' sign, so just stay on the good side of that and not our side of that," Marak says.

Dozens of elk were spotted on the fairway at Tower Ranch Golf and Country Club Sunday morning.

Kathy Sorensen's parents spotted the large herd wandering through the first hole's fairway at the Kelowna golf course at about 7 a.m.

Sorensen says her parents have seen elk at the course in the past, but never so many at one time.

According to the Ministry of Environment, about 1,350 of the province's estimated 40,000 elk live in the Thompson-Okanagan region, while the majority live in the Kootenays and Northern B.C.
