Candel Custom Homes gets 11 Okanagan Housing Award nominations

The finalists for the 30th annual Okanagan Housing Awards have been revealed, and Candel Custom Homes has a chance to take home the most hardware.

The Kelowna-based company has received 11 nominations for this year’s awards, which are conducted by the Okanagan chapter of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association and will be handed out in person on Saturday, Jan. 29. They used to be known as the Tommie Awards.

Edward West Luxury Homes has the second most nominations in the construction category, including two of three in the prestigious home of the year category. Its home of the year nominations are for Sunset at Sarsons and South Beach at Sarsons. The third nominee for home of the year is Bercum Builders’ Cypress Hill Estate.

On the supplier side, local cabinet manufacturers Norelco Cabinets and Westwood Fine Cabinetry, which received six and three nominations, respectively.

Isabey Interiors and Hannah Katey Interior Design are both up for six honours in the design categories.

“This year’s group of finalists are particularly impressive given the challenges brought on by the Covid pandemic,” CHBA-CO executive officer Daniel Winer said. “Between the rising costs of materials, a shortage of local skilled trades workers, and climate issues including heat domes and atmospheric rivers, these builders were able to overcome all of these obstacles to complete some breathtaking projects throughout our region.”
