Local cases hold steady

The number of weekly cases of COVID-19 in the Okanagan has remained consistent in recent weeks.

New data recently released by the BC Centre for Disease Control shows 141 new cases of the virus were discovered in the Central Okanagan between Nov. 21 and 27. The week prior, 140 new cases were found in the region.

To the north, weekly cases dropped by one in Vernon, to 43, while five new cases were discovered in the Armstrong/Spallumcheen local health area, along with 18 in the Enderby region.

Salmon Arm saw new weekly cases rise by 16, to 53 while Kamloops posted 75 new cases last week.

To the south, Penticton matched its previous week's numbers with 18 new cases. But the Summerland region saw its most single-week cases ever between Nov. 21 and 27, with 28.

The Southern Okanagan, which includes Oliver and Osoyoos, saw just one new case last week.

In the Fraser Valley, Surrey and Abbotsford posted the most new cases last week of any local health area in the province, with 151 and 144 new cases respectively. But these regions are also among the most populous local health areas in B.C.
