Big White moves opening day back by 24 hours, hoping for snow

Big White pushes opening

Despite snow in the forecast for parts of British Columbia, Big White has checked the long-range forecast and decided they will have to postpone opening day by 24-hours, snow-permitting.

"It has been decided by our Vice President of Outdoor Operations, Darcy Arnold to wait for more snow prior to opening the resort," said Micheal J. Ballingall, Big White Resort senior V.P.

The resort was supposed to have its opening day on November 25, but that date has been pushed back by at least 24 hours as of Monday.

Big White is expected to have the Ridge Rocket chair lift, the Plaza chair lift and, Lara’s Gondola open for this Friday, November 26 at 8:45 a.m.

Heavy rain fell last week and melted as much as 20 cm of the base at the mountain. Prior to the rain, there was more than 50 cm's at the base but after the rain that had dropped to just above 20 cm's.

Ballingall said last week that the resort really needed another 20-25 cm of snow in order to open safely, "we are praying for snow."
