Alberta man set to face trial next spring for Kelowna woman's murder

Trial set for local's murder

An Alberta man is scheduled to begin trial for the 2019 murder of a Kelowna woman next spring.

The body of 33-year-old Saladina Vivancos was found near Highway 16 west of of Edmonton on Nov. 17, 2019, and 36-year-old Blake Jolicoeur was arrested and charged with her murder shortly after.

Jolicoeur, a Spruce Grove resident, is now awaiting a jury trial in Edmonton, scheduled for March 21 to April 8.

Candace Parker knew Vivancos for most of her life in Kelowna. She says Vivancos was always smiling when she saw her.

“She was a really good person,” Parker said.

On the two-year anniversary of Vivancos death, Parker just wants to know the suspect in the murder is still facing justice.

“I have to do this for her, nothing's been said since the day he was caught,” she said. “Every 17th of November is really sh*tty, just not knowing.”

Parker used to regularly visit Vivancos' memorial where she was murdered, but she says the memorial has since been removed.

A hundred donors raised more than $18,000 through a GoFundMe page two years ago, to help bring Vivancos' body home to B.C., and to help her family with travel expenses.
