Acclaimed Canadian Tenor Colin Ainsworth performs three shows in the Okanagan

Opera in the valley

Opera Kelowna has a special guest helping kick off their season.

Acclaimed Canadian Tenor Colin Ainsworth is performing three shows in the valley over the next few days.

He’s at Vernon’s Trinity United Church tonight, Thursday, Sept. 30 and tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 1 at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Kelowna. Tickets are still available for both shows.

Ainsworth will also be performing a sold-out show at a private residence in Naramata Sunday, Oct. 3.

He will be accompanied at the piano by Laura Loewen, who was last heard in the Okanagan performing with soprano Tracy Dahl. Local violist Ashley Kroecher will join the stage for two selections.

The program includes Hymns for Tenor by Ralph Vaughan Williams, a Beatles songs set by Louis Adriessen, and The Length of a Day for tenor and piano by Jeffrey Ryan. The piece sets four poems by Michelle Poirier Brown that were commissioned by Pacific Opera Victoria specifically for Ainsworth.

Tickets for the Vernon and Kelowna shows are $40 a person and can be purchased through this link or on the Opera Kelowna website.
