Kelowna's Orchard Park Mall celebrates 50 years

Orchard Park turns 50

Kelowna's Orchard Park Mall is celebrating its 50th Birthday.

On September 28, 1971 Orchard Park opened its doors with two anchor tenants; Simpsons-Sears and The Bay, which was still under construction.

At a cost of $10 million, it was developed on a former orchard and its location was considered ‘out of town’ at the time.

Fast forward to today and Orchard Park is the largest enclosed shopping centre between Calgary and Vancouver, with over 160 retailers.

Over the last 50 years Orchard Park has undergone many renovations with the most current project underway in the previous Sears Home location which will see a new entrance and the arrival of Structube and Planet Fitness in early 2022.

Canadian Blood Services Plasma Centre opened its doors in July of this year.

“It’s a place to meet, reconnect and belong. Orchard Park provides residents of Kelowna, the Okanagan Valley, and the year-round 1.9 million tourists who frequent the area a superior shopping experience," said Catherine Whittingstall, Orchard Park’s General Manager.

To celebrate the fun a $500 Orchard Park gift card is up for grabs.

Beach Radio will be on location on Sept. 24 giving away eight $50 gift cards every hour as well as commemorative tote bags to random shoppers.
