Unlike last year, when pandemic restrictions mean there couldn’t be a big gathering, family and friends were on hand to cheer as the 2021 Cops for Kids Ride wheeled into Kelowna Sunday.

It was the culmination of a nearly 1,000-kilometre journey that saw the group of RCMP officers and invited guests pedalling across south eastern B.C. over 10 days.

“I just want to thank you, all of the riders. This was the first year I had an opportunity to go out of the ride as part of the support crew and it gave me a first-hand impression of the work and dedication that you guys put in every day, “ Said Cops For Kids President, Retired Supt. Brent Mundle, South East District RCMP.

Many of the officers have been part of the ride for years. “There’s a lot of things that I’ve seen in this job and in my career, and being able to help children that need it is just amazing. The group here puts so much effort into what they do, into helping people that it’s such an honour to be part of it,” said Constable Andrew Dean from the Penticton detachment.

Over the past two decades, Cops for Kids has raised more than $5.8 million dollars for children and their families who need support while undergoing medical treatment.

The total amount raised during the 2021 ride is still being tallied.
