Kelowna city council has approved a partnership between the city and UBCO that will see university students and staff pay to park at the airport.
With the COVID-19 pandemic still greatly impacting travel, YLW has a surplus of parking. Meanwhile, up the hill at UBCO, the university is dealing with a parking crunch.
Under the plan approved by council Monday, UBCO students and staff will pay $360 per semester to park at the airport, effective September 20, 2021.
The pilot project is set to run the duration of the fall semester, after which point things will be re-evaluated in the context of passenger counts and the need for traveller parking at YLW.
A local shuttle will operate between UBCO and the airport.
