Close call after equipment falls from a crane along Water Street
Equipment falls from crane
WorkSafe BC is investigating after a piece of equipment fell from a crane at the One Water Street construction site Monday afternoon.
Leonard Kerkhoff, president and CEO of Kerkhoff Construction, says the incident took place just before 3 p.m.
"It is very fortunate that no one was hurt. This is an incident, not an accident. This is a highly unusual occurrence for us. We put worker and public safety first in everything that we do. WorkSafe was out today."
Leonard says the site is open and the equipment in question is no longer being used.
"We do regularly check all of our equipment and ensure it meets safety and regulatory standards," he added.
A worker on the site tells Castanet the piece of equipment just missed several workers.
"It just missed the workers and was about seven feet from where I was standing. It was a close call," the worker said.
