Environment Canada forecasts possible rain this weekend

Rain on the way?

According to Environment Canada, a ridge of high pressure is making its way over the southern interior bringing with it a boost in daytime high temperatures.

As temperature rises in the next few days, current indications are that the hottest weather is expected on Friday and Saturday for most regions.

"There is so much smoke around that it kind of mutes our daytime highs a bit," said Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist, adding they are hopeful that much-needed rain will fall later in the week,

"There is a system moving up from the south that originates up in the Arizona area. Moisture from that is coming to us Sunday. So we have a chance of showers and thunderstorms and maybe some rain. Hopefully just enough to give us some cooler weather and some relief for a couple of days."

"It could come with lightning as well and wind. The rain won't be enough to really help the situation, but it is not bad news to see any bit rain," Lundquist added.

The last time Kelowna saw any rain was on July 7 when just 0.3 mm fell, and before that, the region saw its driest spring on record.
