'Unruly patient' smashed window in fourth-floor room at KGH

Window smashed at KGH

A scary incident occurred at Kelowna General Hospital earlier this month, when a patient smashed a window in a fourth floor room.

The incident occurred on the evening of July 7 in Unit 4W, a surgical unit for orthopaedic, neurology and trauma patients. Photos from the scene show a window was smashed and pieces of bedding were pushed through it.

“Interior Health can confirm that RCMP were called the night of July 7 in response to an incident at KGH,” IH said in a brief statement.

“We thank the RCMP for their quick response. There were no injuries and we would like to acknowledge the actions of our staff in keeping themselves and patients safe.”

Jocelyn Noseworthy of the Kelowna RCMP said police responded to a report of an “unruly patient.”

“Our officers attended, assisted in deescalating the situation, and no charges were laid,” she said.
