GoFundME at $40,000 for family with stage 4 cancer

Little Rylie fighting for life

The community has come together to support a reeling family from Lake Country.

The Nicholls were faced with their worst nightmare back in July when doctors shared that their daughter Rylie was diagnosed with cancer.

"Following a recent onset of leg pain their little spitfire Rylie developed worsening symptoms, including wide spread pain, and was admitted to KGH July 13th," family-friend Tiffany Jones-Waite said.

Rylie was transported to BC Children’s Hospital on July 15th for more testing.

In a recent update on a GoFundMe for the family, Jones-Waite shared the diagnosis.

"Stage 4 Aggressive Neuroblastoma. She has a tumour on her adrenal gland - and there was no way we would have been able to have noticed it. "

"Short term - she will be getting a specific type of a CT scan called an MIBG to scan where all of the neuroblastoma has travelled throughout her body. And by weekend she will be getting a biopsy done on the tumour, as well as a port installed in her chest for chemos, labs etc," the GoFundMe said.

Rylie will also undergo rounds of chemo, radiation, possible surgery, and stem cell transplants.

"There will be small stints where we will be able to go back home, but majority of it will be here in Vancouver."

"We are still taking it one day at a time and will have to figure out what life with our family will look like. 18 months is a long time. We are going to take some time right now to digest this. But this is what we were prepared for," the post added.

To date the GoFundMe has raised almost $40,000.

"Hoping this fund will act as a security blanket so you can focus on Rylie's treatment and recovery. Sending all our love, strength and positivity from the UK," a donor wrote.
