Tribute to crane victims

A touching tribute was made by the Site C dam near Fort St. John on Friday in honour of those who died in a crane accident in Kelowna.

At the Site C Generating Station and Spillways Project, Aecon-Flatiron-Dragados-EBC observed a moment of silence to honour the victims of the Kelowna Crane Collapse. Two work stoppages took place, one at 11:00a.m. and the other at 11:00p.m., to allow all shifts to stop and reflect.

9 Tower Cranes oriented and directed their jibs towards Kelowna, and sounded their horns in unison following the moment of silence in the morning and evening.

Troy Van Bostelen is the communications manager at AFDE’s GSS Project at Site C. With 1800 employees working on the site currently, he says those in the industry are part of a community. “Like the workers who died, our workers are also hard working, proud of what they do and proud to support their families, so this accident really hit home.”
