A handful of temperature records were set again on Canada Day across the Okanagan

Okanagan heat records

Only a few temperature records were set across the Okanagan on Canada Day as the mercury finally dips below the historic 40 C barrier.

July 1 temperature records were established in just four communities in the Okanagan.

The warmest temperature was registered in Summerland, where the thermometer touched 39.3 C. That broke the old record of 36.5 C set in 1987.

Other temperature records established Thursday include:

  • Kelowna - 38.8 C. Old record 36.9 C set in 1987
  • Penticton - 38 C. Old record 36.6 C set in 1987
  • Osoyoos - 37.6 C. Old record 36.6 C set in 2008

Unlike earlier in the week, only a dozen communities across the province, all in the Southern Interior and Kootenays, set temperature records.

Trail was the only centre in the Interior to remain at 40 C or above. Their official temperature was 40.0 C.
