Kelowna RCMP have announced charges after a suspicious death at a Rutland home on Thursday.
The BC Prosecution Service has approved a charge of second-degree murder against Dereck Donald Sears in the death of Darren Middleton, whose body was found just before 1:30 a.m. on June 17, 2021 at a residence in the 1200-block of Sycamore Road in Kelowna.
Sears was arrested immediately after the incident Thursday and has been held in custody with his next court appearance scheduled for June 24.
RCMP tell Castanet, "as this matter is now before the courts, no further information will be released."
Police spent most of the day Thursday at the scene of the alleged crime. Neighbours told Castanet the home has been in a state of disrepair, with broken windows and junk cluttering the front lawn, for many months now.
