Dogs saved from house fire

UPDATE 5:35 p.m.

Lake Country fire chief Steve Windsor says they were called at about 4 p.m. for a report of a home showing flames from its top floor.

“We could actually see the column of smoke from one of our fire halls,” he said.

The fire had burned up the outside of the Hallam Road home and into the attic, Windsor explained.

The burning home contained a litter of eight dogs and puppies that a neighbour rescued. Firefighters also rescued three adult dogs, one of which crews found hiding in a shower from the flames.

“It has been taken to Fairfield emergency vets in Kelowna, it would obviously have some smoke inhalation,” Windsor said.

“It’s been a difficult fire, it’s in the attic space so we are still getting pockets of fire in that attic space,” he said, adding there is “a lot of destruction” on the house.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire and the cause is unknown.
