UPDATE 10 a.m.

RCMP remain at the scene of a suspicious death in Rutland.

The home, along with two vehicles, is wrapped in yellow police tape. A significant amount of debris, including multiple shopping carts, is in the front driveway.

A window on the front of the home is also broken, although it is not clear if it is related to the death.

Police are investigating a suspicious death in Kelowna.

RCMP were called to a residence on the 1200 block of Sycamore Road in Rutland just before 1:30 a.m., after a man was found deceased.

“At this time, we are not releasing the name of the deceased,” says Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy. “However police believe that this incident is isolated in nature, and the victim and the suspect were known to one another.”

A Kelowna man has been taken into custody in the matter. No charges have been laid at this time, however.

Investigators have cordoned off the area and are collecting evidence and speaking to witnesses, says Noseworthy.

Neighbours report at least four police vehicles outside the home and crime scene tape surrounding the area.

The Kelowna RCMP Major Crime Unit has assumed control of the investigation.

The BC Coroners Service has begun a concurrent investigation to determine all the facts surrounding the death.

No further information is being released at this time, but police urge anyone who witnessed or has knowledge of the crime to come forward immediately and call Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
