More than 165 people take part in annual Big White cleanup

Big turnout at spring cleanup

When the snow melts at a ski hill, a whole season’s worth of litter is revealed.

So on Saturday, more than 165 people took part in Big White's annual community clean-up.

“Our Community Clean Up was a huge success, with an overwhelming level of support from the Big White Community, locals and staff,” says Trevor Hanna, vice president of hospitality at Big White Ski Resort Ltd.

“The weather held off long enough that allowed for a pleasant morning while collecting roadside litter. The Big White Guest Services and Food & Beverage teams did their usual fantastic job overseeing the event and ensured that all participants were well fed at lunch!”

The resort provided a special thank you to Joan Wolf for providing commemorative t-shirts and sponsoring the post-clean up BBQ at The Woods; to the Big White Fire Department for organizing and distributing volunteers around the resort; the Big White Mountain Community Development Association and the Big White Community School who assisted with securing a large number of community members and brought in extra support; Total Restoration for supplying the garbage bags and gloves for everyone; the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary for its support in supplying the funds for the bin that was dropped in Happy Valley.

Big White Ski Resort opens for summer operations on July 1.
