Kelowna RCMP officer facing second charge of assault
2nd assault charge for cop
A Kelowna RCMP officer is facing a second assault charge, in connection to a previously unreported incident spanning several months in 2017.
On Tuesday, Crown prosecutors approved a charge of assault against Const. Siggy Pietrzak for an alleged off-duty incident in West Kelowna between May 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017.
Court documents name a victim with a female name.
No other details on the offence are available. Both the RCMP and BC Prosecution Service declined to offer any additional information
Pietrzak is scheduled to make his first appearance in Kelowna court on the file on July 15.
Pietrzak is facing a separate charge of assault, filed in April, related to an arrest downtown Kelowna last year that saw him captured on video punching a man during an arrest who had his arms held by two other officers.
RCMP spokesperson S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said Tuesday Pietrzak remains suspended with pay.
Castanet will update this story as more information becomes available.
