Friends and family support Kelowna man fighting leukemia

Family man fights cancer

Friends of a Kelowna man battling leukemia have started a GoFundMe to help cover expenses during a difficult time.

Kathy Litke reached out to Castanet to let us know that her good friend 43-year-old Kyle Kirby, husband and father of two girls has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.

Kirby was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital on January 16. He has been unable to see his family due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will likely have to remain in Vancouver indefinitely.

"As friends and family of Kyle, we are trying to fundraise for him, as he will essentially have to pay for two sets of housing costs – and he is the sole provider for his wife, and two girls age 13 and 14," says Litke.

Litke says the money raised from the GoFundMe will be used for monthly rent, food, gas, groceries, and expenses in Vancouver for him and his wife Aimee, once he becomes an outpatient.

As of Friday, the GoFundMe had raised $10,600 of its $25,000 goal.
